Berkheide is a dune nature area of 1,700 hectares and is part of the National Park Hollandse Duinen.

The area is partly grazed by Scottish Highlanders.

There are also many remnants from the Second World War, such as a tank wall and bunkers. Some bunkers have been made accessible to bats so that they can hide, sleep and hibernate in them.

The tank wall and bunkers formed part of the Atlantic Wall that ran through this area.

There are two administrators for this area.

The sub-area near the sea is managed by Staatsbosbeheer and is accessible to the public.

Dunea manages the area with vulnerable nature. To protect this fragile nature, this part is not accessible to the public.
