The Calico Tank is one of the largest collecting "tanks" or watering holes Red Rock. Although it is not full year-round, it is an incredibly important water source for wildlife. When the tank is not full you can still see reeds that mark what would be shores - an unusual sight in the desert! When there is water, the unique sandstone formations that surround you on all sides are reflected in the pool and you might see humming birds, tree frogs, and other animals in the water and along its edge. The tank is an amazing place to take photos and rest - but please refrain from touching or entering the water to help protect the delicate ecosystem! - before the final scramble up to the summit of the Calico Tanks hike.
