    Hiking

The Willow Spring Picnic Area has many picnic tables, some which are shaded by large cottonwood and oak trees, trash cans, and two pit-toilets, but no drinking water. It is close to several points of interest, including ancient indigenous petroglyphs and pictograms, rock climbing areas, and a seasonal waterfall. The picnic area itself is wheelchair accessible and a great spot deep in the heart of Red Rock Canyon to rest and eat lunch.

Embark on the White Rock to Willow Spring Trail, a moderate hiking route spanning 2.6 miles (4.1 km) with a gentle elevation gain of 201 feet (61 metres). You can expect to complete this journey in about 1 hour and 25 minutes, immersing yourself in a landscape that transitions from scrubby desert and fields of cholla cactus to surprising pockets of ponderosa pine and juniper. As you hike, you'll be treated to expansive views of the Las Vegas Valley and the striking sandstone formations of the White Rock Hills.

To begin your adventure, head to the White Rock Mountain Western Trailhead, where convenient parking is available. You'll also find restrooms at the trailhead, making it easy to prepare for your hike. While the trail does pass by water sources like White Rock Spring, it's always a good idea to bring your own water or a reliable filter to stay hydrated throughout your outing.

This trail offers more than just a pleasant hike; it's a chance to experience the geological diversity of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, especially as you approach White Rock Spring, a natural focal point along the route. The varied terrain and scenic vistas make this a rewarding option for anyone looking to explore the unique desert environment.
