When you look at a map you will not believe your eyes once you are here. The A4 highway from Delft to Rotterdam is truly a spectacular piece of road, completely hidden from the surrounding area. But no, it's not a tunnel. It's a sunken road with canals on either side. When you ride your bike 100 meters from this small road/bridge you still won't notice that there's a six-lane highway right in front of you.

It's known as the most expensive highway in The Netherlands with a price of 100.000 EUR per meter. Surrounding villages/inhabitants fought the government for 63 years because they did not want a highway through their backyard. Eventually, a compromise was made. The highway can be built as long as it doesn't take anything away from the beautiful countryside views when you're close by.
