In 1684 Mr. Frederik van Beeck (1632 - 1696, drost of the lordship of Renswoude and Emmikhuizen and steward of the Carthusian goods there, bought the allodial (is free) estate Engelaar from the bankrupt estate of Jonker Johan Lodewijk van Panhuys.

At the beginning of the 18th century, his son Johan Frederik van Beeck (1676 - ) came to live on the farmstead with his wife and children in the summer and probably had the mansion built. In 1784 his son of the same name (1712 - 1786), who was married to Margreta Isabella Pauw, wife of Dijkveld and Rateles, sold the country estate for ƒ 2800 to Gerard Maximiliaan Taets van Amerongen. The property is described as 'seeckere Buijtenplaats, existing in a huysinge with its gardens, orchard, wood crops, plantations, etc., together with a farmhouse, mountains, barns, sheep pens, lands, etc., large over 50 morgen, called den Engelaar', including a piece of land (100 roe), which was issued on a long lease for ƒ 6 per year to Bart Teunissen van Lunteren, and with a bench in the church of Renswoude. At that time the farm was leased to Willem Lammertsen Hardeman.
