The Axtbach, a stream in Münsterland, is a 34.1 km long, orographically left tributary of the Ems. It rises on the Mackenberg in the Beckum mountains, flows through Oelde, the Menninghausen farming community in Oelde, the Herzebrock-Clarholz district of Möhler and then flows south past Clarholz to Beelen, where the Beilbach flows into it to the west of the town. The Axtbach itself flows into the Ems in Vohren east of Warendorf.

The Axtbach was renatured in the area of the Four Seasons Park in Oelde and in Vohren. It now flows again partly in its original bed through wet meadows and forms floodplain lakes. The straightening and channeling in Beelen and Vohren took place in 1964.The fish stocks of the Axtbach include carp, tench, pike, eel, bream and roach. There are now freshwater mussels again.

The Axtbach is a small river that was expanded around 1960. Due to the ground weirs, the Axtbach has a moderate flow rate and a fairly constant water level. Flat sandy areas alternate with deep pools. In the summer months, the Axtbach has lush aquatic vegetation in places, e.g. of reeds and water lilies. Our fishing route goes from the location in Beelen to the mouth of the Ems and is about 7 km long. The width varies between 10 m and 15 m.
