Hiking Highlight
The Herreninsel with Herrenchiemsee Castle is the region's main attraction and attracts a large number of visitors every year. The "Bavarian Versailles", as it is often called, is a pompous, magnificent building built in the style of the French Baroque and Rococo, which was modeled on the Palace of Versailles.

It is disappointing that the building administration of the Free State of Bavaria could allow to build a fun bath exactly in the visual axis. How is such a crime possible? Did one seriously think that the Apollo fountain, which had never been realized, could be the highlight of Parkache? Is it a late affront to the unloved King Ludwig II, who almost ruined the state finances of his time and still lets the cash register ring today?
The glittering in the sunlight something is a big nuisance. At least bring the thoughts back to the banal reality.

Herrenchiemsee Castle Canal
The large Apollo fountain was to be built in front of the "Grand Canal", but it was never completed. In Greek and Roman mythology, Apollo was the god of light, spring, moral purity and moderation, as well as divination and the arts.
When the water is low, you can cross the canal on the stones ... to the great astonishment of the people who drive past it on the ship - from the sea side the stones are hardly visible and so you walk across the water for them . Just try it out! :-)chiemgau.de/panorama/herreninsel/schlosskanal-herrenchiemsee/1089.htm?ref=list

Nice line of sight to Prien. Directly opposite the shell shape of the Priener indoor swimming pool Prienavera. Of course, Ludwig II wanted to hide himself with hedges at the time - but the island would certainly also be more beautiful without the castle ...

The long walk along the canal is worthwhile because you really have an interesting view of the castle.

There is a game reserve to the right of the castle. Deer, deer and fawn could be seen

The Herrenchiemsee New Palace is located on Herrenchiemsee, the largest island of Lake Chiemsee in southern Bavaria. After the earlier name of the island, it is also occasionally referred to as New Castle Herrenwörth. The building was built from 1878 under the so-called Fairy Tale King Ludwig II based on the model of the Palace of Versailles near Paris. The designs for the historicist building came primarily from Georg von Dollmann, and the Austrian Julius Hofmann was responsible for the execution. Herrenchiemsee Palace was Ludwig II's last major construction project, and he only lived in it for a few days. The work ended with the death of the king in June 1886, the building remained largely unfinished.
