Alcázar de San Juan is one of the most interesting destinations in the heart of La Mancha, with a blend of history, heritage, nature, and Cervantine traditions.

Its name comes from the Military Order of Saint John, which dominated the area after the Reconquista.
It claims to be the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes, as the baptismal font where, according to some studies, the writer was baptized is preserved in the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor.
It was an important railway junction and economic center in the 19th and 20th centuries, which shaped its urban development.

It is famous for being the birthplace of the famous author of Don Quixote, since in 1748 the baptismal certificate of "Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra" was found in the church of Santa María la Mayor. It is full of places of interest such as the streets of the old town, the Plaza de Santa María, the statue of Miguel de Cervantes, and the church of Santa María la Mayor. Old buildings and houses of pink stone are also preserved, such as the Posada de Santo Domingo or the Palace of the Grand Prior, built between 1235 and 1237.
