This is actually a fairly wide piece of land with grass and in the middle of it an equally wide asphalt road that separates the lake from a much smaller pond where you can also spot birds. In that last smaller part of the Schulensmeer recreation area there is also an inlet to the Schulensmeer of the Dender. It's a nice stretch for photos too (the big lake looks even bigger here and the smaller stretch is also quite worthwhile) and has a small slope.
