Most people walk from Malham village up to the Cove using the road ways. There's actually an alternative route up past the pub, which takes you higher up. I find this is better for photos of the Cove. Once you're up on the top, after a break on the steps, don't miss out on the Malham Tarn further along. It's only an extra 10-15 minute walk and worth a visit, especially during the summer months.

A real gem of the Yorkshire Dales! Walk up to Malham Cove from Malham and continue on to Malham Tarn. It's a really great area to explore. I particularly love the limestone pavement.

At the top of the cove, you are treated to stunning views of the surrounding limestone pavement, green hills, and the impressive 260-foot high cliff face. The limestone pavement is a unique geological feature that formed over gazillion of years, and is now a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest due to its rare plant and animal life. The top of Malham Cove was used as a filming location for the Harry Potter movie series. In Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, Part I, the characters Harry and Hermione set up camp on the Limestone Pavement at the top of Malham Cove, and the area was used for several other scenes in the movie. With its breathtaking vistas and natural splendor, the Top of Malham Cove is a must-see destination in the Yorkshire Dales.
