At this intersection of the Kerk pad and the Masloot, there was a so-called ford for centuries. A ford is a fordable place in a stream or river.

In the past, the Kerk pad connected the village of Zeijen with the church village of Vries. The residents of Zeijen walked to the church or the market via this path. The Masloot was quite a barrier in wet times and overflowed its banks. There were hardly any bridges in the past, but there was usually a fordable place on a somewhat higher and sandy spot. Such a place was reinforced with large boulders.

At the initiative of the local population, the ford was restored in 2011.
