If you ride to Valentia Island by ferry, Knightstown will be your first stopping point. Make sure you look back the way you have come for superb mountain views. The town is famous for being the location of the first transatlantic telegraph cable which operated until 1966. There are plenty of cafes in Knightstown for re-fueling plus a museum which details the history of the transatlantic cable.
