The so-called “Red Cross” is located very close to the forest cemetery in the Merl district of Meckenheim. This is a wooden cross with a beautifully crafted body. It also has a gable roof as well as a back wall and side walls, which form a protective niche for the small sacred monument with the crucified Christ. The interior walls of this niche are painted in a friendly light blue color, contrary to the expected color corresponding to the usual name “Red Cross”.
