The Namibian National Museum (English National Museum of Namibia) is a state-sponsored cultural and research institution with both state and private research contracts. The National Museum of Namibia has its headquarters on Robert Mugabe Avenue in the Central district of Windhoek, in the former building of the Imperial Secondary School, opposite the Alte Feste.
It goes back to the "Landesmuseum" founded in 1907 by the German colonial administration; it was renamed the "State Museum" in 1957 and received its current name in 1994.
