The Zaanhof residential complex is located in the western part of the Spaarndammerbuurt and is named after the river Zaan.
H.J.M. Walenkamp was commissioned by the socialist housing association 'Het Westen' to design this residential courtyard in which the buildings are arranged as a double shell around a courtyard. Private gardens are located between the shells. The outer shell is formed by four-storey houses, the courtyard consists of small two-storey housing. The entrance to the courtyard is formed by two gatehouses, which are notable for their extra height, among other things.
