The hike up to this viewpoint rewards you with a magnificent view of Bantry and the surrounding hills and waters. From up here you can overlook Bantry Bay as it blends into the landscape with its small islands. The interplay of lush green meadows and the deep blue water of the bay has something calming but also expansive - as if the world opens up a little wider here.

As you climb you will be accompanied by typical Irish pastureland, and every now and then you will come across small pasture fences or cattle gates that break up the route a little. What I personally noticed: The path is easy to walk on, but there are small sections here and there where you have to be a little careful, especially in wet weather, as the ground becomes slippery in places.

When you get to the top, take your time and sit on one of the hills. The wind blowing through the grass and the wide view over the bay provide a special sense of calm. If you like to immerse yourself in nature, you should also keep an eye on the odd bird circling high above Bantry.

The combination of hills, water and wide skies makes this place a worthwhile destination for a short but scenic hike. But as always: the beauty is in the details and the experience varies with the weather - so it's best to set off early and enjoy the changing light.
