At the height of the Hofstraat is the statue 'Ballerina'. The sculptress, Mariette Teugels, is fascinated by the beauty of the young dancer and wants to depict this figure as realistically as possible. The young dancer bends her lithe body deeply forward and gracefully ties the silk ribbons of one of her dance shoes. 'Pointe shoes' are made of a leather sole, a satin or canvas shoe and a hard toe box, also called a 'box', which is made of papier-mache and layers of fabric. In preparation for her performance, the ballerina already seems to be performing a dance step. She is concentrated. The tightly strung hair is tied in a bun. The eyes are focused on the tip of her dancing shoe; the arms form an elegant movement and the legs are already in the classical dance position. The true-to-life design of Mariette Teugels is highly appreciated by a wide audience.

The realization of this bronze statue requires solid professional knowledge. The living model cannot maintain the bent-forward posture for long. So pictures will come in handy. Modeling is also not possible without a metal skeleton with the necessary supports. Molding and casting in bronze are also a delicate task. But the result of all these efforts is an extremely graceful, attractive work of art.
