The coniferous arboretum near Augustusburg was created in 1966 under the direction of senior forester Horst Hänel. Today, around 140 tree and shrub species from various continents grow on an area of around three hectares. The arboretum shows the diversity of conifers, their growth forms, needles and cones. Due to the climatic conditions, not all species are represented. Here you can deepen your knowledge of native and exotic conifers or learn more about their special features on a guided tour. Guided tours can be booked through Sachsenforst.

In the middle of the forest below the Augustusburg, you can currently see about 140 different tree and shrub species including hybrids (crosses between related species and a generic hybrid) from Europe, Asia, Africa and America on an area of almost 3 hectares - by the way, only a fraction of the on coniferous trees found on earth (around 600 species). Visitors to the arboretum should be given an understanding of the natural biodiversity of conifers in connection with their variety of shapes (growth, needles, blossoms, cones). Since there are no fixed opening hours, guided tours are arranged through the Sachsenforst state enterprise.
