The mausoleum of Carstanjen is since the summer of 2007 a Christian burial ground. The unique cultural monument on the Rhine is regarded as incomparably dignified place for the burial of urns. In the crypt of the building, the dead find their last earthly home.

The banker and entrepreneur Wilhelm Adolf von Carstanjen (1825–1900) had the building built in 1895/96 as a burial place for himself and his relatives as part of an expansion of his manorial country house. The design for the building from 1889 came from the church architect and cathedral master builder August Hartel and Skjøld Neckelmann. The royal government master builder Johannes Kleefisch was involved in the construction of the tomb.

Originally a family mausoleum, it has been able to accommodate up to 3000 urns since 2007
