Arguably the narrowest building is the listed former transformer house "Café Winzig"

in Wittenburg. The former transformer station is centrally located at Bahnhofstraße 1a, at the corner of Lindenstraße. The building served for a time as a café, aptly named "Café Winzig." After a fire, it was restored and is now used as a private residence.

When you stand in front of the house, there's nothing to indicate that it was once a transformer station. Only at the rear, above the mansard roof of the extension, does its former function become apparent: here, the wall bushings of the former medium-voltage overhead lines have fortunately been retained on the gable, documenting that the former transformer processed electricity inside.

Discover this special house in Lauenburg's old town.

Lauenburg's narrow house at Elbstrasse 97 is less than 3 metres wide and is particularly pretty to look at. The half-timbered house was built at the end of the Renaissance. The facade was later changed to the original gable triangle, probably to let more light into the rooms through larger windows. The house has 2 full floors and has a basement made of boulders. The visible ceiling beams and posts in the front area of the ground floor are carefully profiled. The carved Renaissance headbands, which are huge in relation to the room, are astonishing. In 1981 the house was restored using the old building materials and has been habitable again since the beginning of 1982. It nestles cutely between the neighbouring houses - in Lauenburg's listed old town you can see the beautiful half-timbered houses side by side.
