The Wittenburg comprehensive school center (GSZ) is located in the building of the former Christian-Ludwig-Liscow-Gymnasium, Lindenstrasse 13 / Schulstrasse and in buildings of the neighboring former Hans Franck Regional School. The GSZ is a regional school and a high school. The old building is a listed building. The two-story, 15-axis, historicized brick building with the distinctive three gable projections, the decorated cornice and the pinnacles was built in 1874 during the time of Mayor Zegelin as a city school. Lindenstrasse is located on the wall, once part of the city fortifications. In 1926, the gymnasium (Lindenstrasse 14) was built with a two-story transverse building with a hipped roof. The city school served as a military hospital during the Second World War. During the GDR era, the high school became the Polytechnic High School - POS-Wilhelm-Pieck (first president of the GDR).Next to the old building, a four-story new building was built for what would become the regional school, and behind the old building, further buildings for the schools and a sports field that is now used jointly. The Hans Franck School - Wittenburg was a combined secondary and middle school with a primary school. After the establishment of an independent primary school on Amtberg then Friedensring, this area was eliminated. In 2011, the Hans Franck Regional School and the Liscow Gymnasium were merged to form the GSZ as a cooperative comprehensive school in order to take account of the falling number of students.
The GSZ is a UNESCO project school. There is a school partnership with a school in Tanzania.
In 2011, the two merged schools lost their previous school names:
Hans Franck (1879 in Wittenburg - 1964) was a writer and dramaturge.
Christian Ludwig Liscow (1701 in Wittenburg - 1760) was a diplomat and satirical writer in the Age of Enlightenment.de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schulzentrum_Wittenburg
