The workshop of the O.Ö. Glasmalerei was founded in Linz in 1884.
Josef Raukamp, a trained glass painter from the Rhineland, took over the business in 1915. From 1919 he worked together with his brother Wilhelm, owner of the glass painting in Berlin, who also came to Linz after the death of his wife.

The brothers' collaboration was interrupted when Wilhelm entered the Cistercian monastery of Schlierbach in 1926. During the Second World War, Josef Raukamp was therefore able to keep his valuable glass supplies safe from the bombing raids in Linz within the monastery walls.

In 1954 the monastery bought the glass painting, which gained a reputation as a center for sacred art. You can find stained glass windows in the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth or in the Memorial Church in Hiroshima.

Today, the Schlierbacher Glaswerkstätte is a modern monastery business with traditional roots, which is characterized by innovation and long-term thinking.
