In the 1920s, the Geitenkamp and Paasberg residential areas were built in Arnhem. A new water tower was needed for these neighborhoods to maintain the water pressure.

In 1928, the water tower of the same name was built near the "De Steenen Tafel". The tower consisted of a water reservoir with a capacity of 600,000 liters (600 m3-600 cubic meters) of water, a restaurant and a stair tower including an elevator to the viewpoint on top of the stair tower.

The restaurant on the ground floor used to be a pancake house and a café, later it became a restaurant.

The 22.5 meter high water tower - highest point 86.5 meters above NAP - is a design by the architect Johannes van Biesen, who works at the Arnhem Municipal Works Department. The skeleton of the tower is a concrete structure, but the outer walls are clad in brick. The building has a sleek, geometric appearance, in which the round shapes of the ascending stair tower contrast beautifully with the squat, angular water reservoir. Three horizontal bands with vendors have been installed in the stair tower from where one could look over the surroundings on the way to the final viewpoint. Through the combination of technical installation and viewpoint, Van Biesen placed the water reservoir in the existing function of "The Stone Table", a popular panorama point for day trippers.

Janno Cornelissen & Theo Sigmond have been the owners since 1998. In 2004, the restaurant and its terrace were made more spacious and bright through a major renovation.
