Here is one of the 4 protective tunnel entrances that were built by German pioneers in 1939/40. Rumbach was in the so-called "Red Zone" during World War II. The population was therefore evacuated.
The tunnels were to be provided with bunkers from the south side and serve as ammunition and supply stores.
At the end of the 1944/45 war, Rumbacher found refuge here from the approaching war front.
For safety reasons, the tunnels were made inaccessible and walled up in the early 1980s.
