One of the oldest churches in the Palatinate. It's worth taking a look inside.

The Christ Church in Rumbach is one of the oldest churches in the Palatinate.

The oldest parts of the fortified church probably date from the 11th century.
It was already built in the eleventh century, under the current chancel there are still the foundations of two Romanesque apses. The walls of the nave are still witnesses of this time.

The tower was built in the early Gothic period, i.e. around the year 1200. Opposite the tower, after the nave was lengthened in the first half of the 14th century, the church received a Gothic portal. Even if you enter the church through this entrance again today, it was not used for more than 250 years, until 1958. The portal was filled up by war and nature; the visitor entered the church through the south side.

Then in 1720, after the Thirty Years' War and the French troops had contributed to the destruction, the baroque windows and the portal were installed on the south side. The upper tower floor and the tower hood were also adapted to the style. The old stone pulpit received its baroque substructure, and this is how the church got its appearance until the middle of the 20th century.

The magnificent medieval frescoes are worth seeing.

This old church with its beautiful frescoes is mostly open!
Next to the church (in a small meadow) there is a nice rest bench from which one can enjoy the outside of this old church and a view of part of Rumbach.
