Located high up on the steep slope of the Schlei, the St. Nikolai Church towers over Kappeln. A chapel stood here as early as the 12th century. Here the seafarers and fishermen thanked their patron saint, St. Nicholas, for their safe return.
Today's late Baroque new building was built at the end of the 18th century.

Hiking

Listed ev. luth. Church from 1793 in late baroque style. The patron of the church, Hans Adolf von Rumohr on Gut Roest, had it built by Johann Adam Richter on the site of a too small, dilapidated church from the 12th century.
