The entire surrounding area is dotted with stone mounds, some of which bear a striking resemblance to the step pyramids on Tenerife, for example. Are these really just heaps of lava boulders to clear the land? Or do these structures testify to an early unknown culture on the island? Are they possibly ancient cult sites of Atlantis? In the absence of accurate scientific research, this is left to your imagination. This is always an interesting corner for a walk. By the way: The largest of these pyramids is located right in the center of Madalena.
