As the street names "Bahnhofstraße" and "Am Bahnhof" reveal, Wietzendorf's train station is located here. The route runs from Celle to Soltau and was opened at the beginning of the 20th century. From 1967 onwards, rail traffic was reduced bit by bit and in the 1970s the rail passenger traffic was discontinued: on May 30, 1975 between Bergen and Soltau, and on May 31, 1976 the remaining traffic between Celle and Bergen.
A small amount of freight traffic and military traffic remained.

On January 1, 2022, the entire route network of Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen AG (OHE) and thus also the Celle–Soltau railway line was sold to the state-owned rail infrastructure of East Lower Saxony, which has been operating the line ever since.

A commemorative plaque near the station building commemorates the darkest chapter of this station: from July 1941, more than 55,000 Soviet prisoners of war, forced labourers, Italian and French officers and soldiers of other nationalities were taken to the STALAG XD 310 Wietzendorf and the later OFLAG 83 led. Over 16,000 of them starved, froze to death or died there from disease or violence.
