Wollsack weathering is a special form of weathering and occurs predominantly in coarsely crystalline rocks such as granite. Through the interaction of physical and chemical processes, rounded-edge blocks of rock are formed during wool sack weathering, which are stacked on top of one another like cushions or just like wool sacks. Such rock formations are often encountered in the Fichtel Mountains.

Right and left along the path there are always wonderful boulders in the so-called wool sack weathering, beautiful to look at and very popular for further processing in earlier years of mining.

Granite boulders appear in the forest to the right and left of the path, weathered forms of the hardest granite rock similar to wool sacks. These "wool sacks" were a sought-after stone for mining in earlier centuries. From these "wool sacks" one could win first-class, particularly resistant stone material.
