At the beginning of the 18th century, Prince Abbot Rupert von Bodman of Kempten had a dam built and the Leubas dammed up, creating the Wagegger Weiher, a lake twice the size of Niedersonthofener See. This was drained again at the beginning of the 19th century, and the moor area remains to this day. Numerous walking and hiking trails lead through it from and between Betzigau, Wildpoldsried and Leubas.
