Today's Bogatynia/ Reichenau originated from a Lusatian village (1260), brown coal has been mined since 1840 and has defined the town and landscape ever since. (Electricity has been generated here since 1904.) - You can see that in the city: the dwellings of the opencast mine workers from different times stretch around a center with attractive and quite large half-timbered houses ... not exactly a center of beauty.
