The Bertha Windmill stands in Süddorf on the North Sea island of Amrum, about 800 meters
from the Amrum Windmill. It is a small windmill with a missing cod end and sail sails. Heinrich Andresen had the building constructed in
1893. A post mill had previously stood on its site since 1882.
The Bertha Windmill is now used for residential purposes. The mill's mechanical equipment is
    no longer present.

Volkert Martin Quedens, the later founder of the seaside resort of Wittdün on Amrum, had the mill erected on the Bronze Age burial mound Redenhuug at Uasterstigh 34 in 1882. Previously, the building, erected in 1775, stood in Munkmarsch on Sylt, where it was being demolished when the boatman Quedens sailed past. He then headed to the island, purchased the demolition material, and transported it to his home island,
where he had the mill rebuilt. Shortly afterwards, he sold the mill to Heinrich Andresen, the son of a Föhr farmer. He had previously cultivated Quedens' land and was not a trained miller, but soon acquired the necessary skills.

He discovered that the mill was not powerful enough.

Therefore, in 1893, he had it replaced with the present-day Dutch windmill. This is said to have been originally built on the mainland by
    a millwright named Tietje(-ns).

In 1922, while constructing a cellar, the miller at the time came across a large stone structure in the center of which was a tree coffin containing the skeleton of a man,
with a bronze sword as a grave offering.

The mill remained in operation until 1942. After that, it fell into disrepair until Hamburg architects
acquired the building in 1952. They had the exterior restored and the interior converted for residential use.

The mill is located on private property and cannot be visited, and is barely visible from the path. However, you can purchase delicious honey (with salt marsh ingredients) and other fruity spreads right outside the garden gate.

The Süddorfer mill was in operation until 1939 and today serves as a residential building.
