Location: Ochsenfurt, Landkreis Würzburg, Lower Franconia, Bavaria, Germany
The first documented mention was in 725, when a monastery was founded in the town on the orders of Boniface, in which Thekla von Kitzingen was abbess, among others. It is possible that there was a royal court in Ochsenfurt until the 11th century. Around 1295, the town's property passed from the table property of the Würzburg bishop to the property of the Würzburg cathedral chapter.[6] The walls and towers date from the 14th century. Since then, the town has been part of the Würzburg diocese, which also belonged to the Franconian Imperial Circle. It was not until the bridge was built in 1512 that Ochsenfurt also gained economic importance. In 1525, there were uprisings during the Peasants' War. The new town hall was completed in 1497. St. Andrew's Church was consecrated in 1288. A medieval leper colony existed in Ochsenfurt, which was probably founded in the 14th century.[7]Ochsenfurt first fell to Bavaria in 1803, then to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg in 1806, but then it fell back to Bavaria in 1813.Source: Wikipedia
