Launched in 2019, delivery scheduled for 2021 saw delays. The inauguration finally took place on August 12, 2023.
The new Pont de Codody, the fifth bridge in Abidjan, connects the presidential commune of Cocody to the administrative and business district of Plateau. This cable-stayed structure, the first of its kind in Côte d'Ivoire, culminates at more than 100 m in height and spans the bay of Cocody for 630 m, bearing the name of President Alassane Ouattara.
A company from Morocco carried out the preliminary studies for the construction of the cable-stayed bridge and assisted the Ivorian government to secure funding from donors. lematin.ma/express/2023/maroc-cote-divoire-pont-cocody-abidjan-inaugure-ouattara/393128.html
It was the Chinese group China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) which carried out the work for which the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) lent 77.5 billion CFA francs to the Ivorian State. With the adjacent constructions – interchanges, two viaducts and stays – the overall investment cost is 105 billion FCFA.
Dismemberment of the Cocody Bay Safeguard and Enhancement Project, the project management of this fifth bridge in the Ivorian economic capital is provided by the Pierre Fakhoury Africa (PFO) group, which designed the work as a subcontractor. with the architecture and design office Arcadis.
The Cocody bridge should allow traffic to flow more smoothly in this part of Abidjan and will see between 29,000 and 35,000 vehicles circulate per day. 1.5 km long, the structure includes a bridge (634 m), a viaduct (260 m), two interchanges, their connecting ramps, access roads and the adaptation of existing roads.
CRBC is on its second major project in the country, after that of the Tiébissou-Bouaké highway (95 kilometers), in the center of the country, for a budget of 162 billion CFA francs with financing from the Chinese bank Eximbank.
In July 2018, Amadou Gon Coulibaly had launched the work of the fourth bridge of Abidjan, to connect the popular district of Yopougon to the Plateau. Another Chinese company, the China state engineering corporation, won the tender, for a total amount of 142 billion CFA francs. The work should be finished in 2020 but they, too, are postponed to 2024 or later.
