The Molkenkur transfer station connects the lower with the upper mountain railway. Instead of changing from one train to the next, you can simply get off here to enjoy the wonderful view of the castle and the old town while walking. Numerous hiking trails run along the Molkenkur, some of which also lead to the castle, for example the Friesenweg named after the painter Ernst Fries. Perhaps you would also like to follow the footsteps of the Himmelsleiter, a picturesque stairway from 1844 that leads from the castle to the summit of the Königstuhl with around 1,200 steps. The entrance is about 1.5 kilometers from the Molkenkur on the way to Schlierbach.
