Long Island in Casco Bay is six miles off the coast of Portland and can only be reached by boat. It's a 45-minute ferry ride from Portland. The island, three miles long and one mile wide, has a winter population of 200 people and over 1,000 in the summer. Many of the residents work in the lobster industry.
