This residential fort southwest of Werkendam with luxury apartments in the barracks and in the fort wall is not accessible to the public.
Fort Steurgat then
Adjacent to the Biesbosch, at the southwestern end of the New Dutch Waterline, the Fort aan het Steurgat was built in the years 1881-1882. Several plans were made, but the fort was ultimately not covered by land that could be flooded. The fort served as a barrier to the river and the dike along the Merwede. The Steurgat has a simple basic shape and was equipped with a large bombproof barracks.
