Parco San Valentino is a city park of over 58,000 square meters. It consists of a large green area located in the area where the Vallona canal begins. The land derives from the acquisition of two properties: one belonging to the Cartiera Galvani, acquired by the municipality of Pordenone in the 1980s, the other characterized by the private park of Villa Poletti-Marchi, which became municipal property at the end of the 1990s. In the part that originally belonged to the paper mill the characterizing element is the large lake. As evidence of the ancient production activity, a building remains, once a production site, now the residence of numerous associations. While very few traces remain of Villa Poletti-Marchi, as it was almost completely destroyed by fire.
Today, walking in the park you can admire part of its ancient barchessa. The building overlooked the artificial body of water, created to supply energy to the paper mill production plant. In the part of the garden of Villa Poletti-Marchi, built around the 1930s, it is possible to recognize a late romantic imprint in the layout of the greenery, with avenues defined by trees, large lawns and large isolated plants. A peculiarity that cannot be missed is the icebox which was intended for domestic use in the villa; the characteristic exposed stone building is located on a small hill surrounded by paths.
Since September 2020, Parco San Valentino has reopened in its new guise as a totally accessible place, thanks to a redevelopment and renovation project financed entirely by the Pier Antonio Locatelli Foundation, thus becoming one of the largest inclusive parks in Italy.
