From Sassari to Platamona via Buddi Buddi

Buddi Buddi is the name of the provincial road s.p. 60 that descends from Sassari to the sea and for most of its length is equipped with a protected cycle path on each side. Its strange toponym, according to the explanation of the linguist Massimo Pittau, means "bubble and bubble" and refers to the presence, in ancient times, of numerous sources of hot water, which once flowed in abundance in the area.

Platamona is a name of Byzantine origin which means "flat place". This name is probably due to the presence of marshes and swamps.

It is located on the coast of the Gulf of Asinara touching the municipalities of Sorso, Sassari and Porto Torres and is a long beach (the second in Italy for length: 15 km) with white sand dunes and shallow waters, a varied flora that alternates a thick pine forest with the Mediterranean scrub and is rich in pines, junipers, coastal flora, sea lilies ...

It is a free beach with ample parking (also equipped for campers) and camping areas or tourist facilities and is suitable for holidays for families with children.

It is accessed from the S.S. 200 (coastal road between Porto Torres and Castelsardo)

In the immediate vicinity of the beach, beyond the road, lies the homonymous water expanse: it is a basin of slightly brackish water, fed by the Rio Buddi Buddi, which no longer communicates with the sea and tends to become swampy; it is surrounded by thick reeds and is rich in flora of naturalistic interest and fauna or avifauna (also migratory): white herons, mallards and sultan chickens.
