La Fuente Vieja was built in 1640 by D. Iñigo Manrique de Lara, fifth lord of Frigiliana and first count after obtaining the title of city in the same year. He placed his coat of arms on it and from the moment of construction it was called Fuente Nueva. It was conceived to provide for the population and a drinking trough for cattle, which is why it is currently showing a curious wear and tear.
