The 298 m high Bielstein basic network transmitter, or Teutoburg Forest transmitter, has stood on the Bielstein since 1951. It collapsed in January 1985, leaving 2 million people with limited radio and television reception. 230 tons of steel collapsed due to weather conditions, among other things. In mid-1986, the transmitter was rebuilt at a height of 302 m after operating for over a year with reduced transmission power. Since then, the mast has been shortened by 4 m to a height of 298 m due to the new DVBT TV.
