On the Bielstein stands since 1951 the 298 m high Grundnetzsender Bielstein or transmitter Teutoburg Forest. This collapsed in January 1985 and gave 2 million people restricted radio and television reception. 230 tons of steel were among others. collapsed due to weather conditions. Mid-1986, the transmitter was rebuilt with a height of 302m, after over a year with limited transmission power was worked. Meanwhile, the mast has been cut by 4m to a height of 298m because of the new DVBT TV.
