The Werneck area is rich in archaeological monuments!

For decades, Neolithic and La Tène period finds have been coming to light on the loess-covered lower terrace between Werneck and Zeuzleben. Only systematic inspection and reporting of finds by volunteer archaeologists has made it possible to protect the monuments.

Nevertheless, construction projects in recent years have repeatedly required archaeological rescue excavations.

Of greatest cultural and historical importance is an early La Tène period flat burial ground, only sections of which were examined during road construction in 2005. The costume components from the La Tène B stage (3rd/4th century BC) recovered there include thickened bracelets, the characteristic wire-shaped brooches, but also some coral-decorated needles, which show clear references to the Thuringian region.
