One of Lluís Domènech i Montaner's first architectural commissions was the Athenaeum, built between 1884 and 1885. The building, built on top of an old house, has been the seat of several cultural and political associations. It is now the library, thanks to a total restoration of the building between 1991 and 1999. A building of moderate lines with wrought iron railings, abundant reddish sgraffito and a large rose window with stained glass in the center. The chamfer with the dome and the lightning rod of the forged dragon stand out.
