The following description from the book “Begijnendijk, village of church builders”[1] summarizes the first impression that the visitor has: “Our church, especially the nave, resembles an immense barn with that enormous space and the wooden truss above it. .”

You enter the entrance hall through the main portal. The gray-red brick walls have accents of white stone. The whole is covered by a dark, brown wooden vault. The division between the central and side aisles consists of four round white stone columns. At the intersection with the transept, the brick pillars are angular.

Already 10 years after the dedication, the high altar in the high choir, the communion rail and the pulpit disappeared as a result of the new liturgical rules of the Second Vatican Council. The new folk altar was placed on a wooden podium.

There are several statues by the artist Willy De Backer (1910-1993): H. Lucia (oak, 1955), H. Barbara (oak, 1955), Our Lady with Child (stone, 1954). , Saint Joseph with the child Jesus (stone, 1954), Sacred Heart of Jesus and a crucified Christ in the high choir (stone, 1957).

Several statues come from the former church: Saint Leonard (terracotta, 18th century), Saint Anthony (plaster, 19th century), the (dressed) procession statues of Saint Lucia and Madonna and Child.

The Sint-Luciakerk is a modern Gothic church in the center of the Belgian village of Begijnendijk. The church is dedicated to Saint Lucia.
The brick building consists of a three-aisled nave of five bays, a transept, a choir bay and a semicircular apse. The tower is located on the northwest corner. The weekly chapel is located in an outbuilding.
The triangular facade is sober and appears solid. Striking are the small windows next to a round-arched entrance, asymmetrical in number, and the three narrow, high-placed windows.
When we walk around the building, the special play of volumes stands out with a high choir that is clearly higher than the nave.
The tower has a bell-shaped slate roof
