Neamţ Monastery is a Romanian Orthodox male monastery located in the northeast of Romania 10 km west of Târgu Neamţ in Neamţ County. The monastery was founded at the time of Prince Petru Muşat (1371-1375). Later under Alexandru cel Bun was repaired. The present monastery church was built by Stefan the Great. It was completed in 1497, when the Moldovan army won a battle against the Polish King John I Albrecht. In its heyday, the monastery was an important cultural center with schools of miniature painting and calligraphy. Some well-preserved pieces can still be seen in the monastery's museum. The monastery library also has many rare books. Among them are some first editions within Romania. You can stay in a guest house - the food and the homemade wine is very exquisite. :)
