In 1716, the owner of Nordkirchen Castle had the windmill built.

On April 1, 1904, miller Heinrich Rath leased the windmill from the Duke of Arenberg.

Around 1920, a suction gas engine was installed.

In 1935, the suction gas engine was replaced by a diesel engine.

During a stormy night, the wind rose, which was used to control the sails, collapsed.

Now the sails could no longer be aligned with the wind.

In 1936, Bernhard Rath and his wife Maria Rath took over the mill.

In 1941/42, the sails were dismantled.

In the mid-1940s, the diesel engine was removed.

Each individual machine was now powered by an electric motor.

In the early 1960s, fine milling was discontinued.

In 1968, a modern hammer mill replaced the millstone grinding mill.

In 2004, the mill tower underwent a complete exterior renovation.
