In 1716, the owner of Nordkirchen Castle had the windmill built.

On April 1, 1904, master miller Heinrich Rath leased the windmill from the Duke of Arenberg.

Around 1920 a suction gas engine was installed.

In 1935 the suction gas engine was replaced by a diesel engine.

On a stormy night, the compass rose, which was needed to control the wind blades, crashed.

Now the wings could no longer be adjusted to the wind.

In 1936 Bernhard Rath and his wife Maria Rath took over the mill.

In the years 1941/42 the wind vanes were dismantled.

The diesel engine was removed in the mid-1940s.

Every single machine was now powered by an electric motor.

Fine milling was abandoned in the early 1960s.

In 1968 a modern hammer mill replaced the grist mill with the millstones.

In 2004, the mill tower received a complete exterior renovation.
