A famous refuge in the upper Modena Apennines, the Tassoni hut is located between Fanano and the Croce Arcana pass, in the Ospitale valley. It was built in the 1960s on the site of a sheepfold owned by a certain Giovanni Tassoni, whose name was inherited by the current refuge. Open every day from June to September, in the remaining periods it is only open on weekends but an emergency room equipped with beds and blankets is always accessible.

Mountain biking

Capanno Tassoni is located at 1,317 meters above sea level, along the road to the Passo della Croce Arcana, near a splendid pine forest. The refuge offers the possibility of overnight stay and refreshment with homemade dishes of the local mountain tradition, including first and second courses, cutting boards and cakes of various kinds. It is an excellent base for excursions in the Frignano Park.

Hiking

Passo della Croce Arcana, 1 hour from the refuge, was crossed by the Gothic Line, front between Allied and German forces during the Second World War. Remains of military installations are found nearby
