The castle Holzheim in the village Langerwehe - Heistern was built in 1122. The former knights' fortress with its irregular rectangular castle was and is still almost completely surrounded by moats. There was a frequent change of ownership by the noble family. Around 1800, the castle became the property of the Schöller family. She built it into a manor and the land acquired by them were used for agricultural purposes. Since 1915, the manor was owned by the Haniel family. Family Heinz and Monika Schneiders leased the castle Holzheim 1964-1986. Gerd Schneiders and his wife Karin Heyden-Schneiders joined this lease in 1987. In 2001, the castle became the property of the Schneider family.
Currently, the farm serves as an agricultural business and is used as a boarding and riding business.
The Schneiders family attaches great importance to a species-appropriate attitude of the animals, a daily grazing, as well as a healthy diet through their own fodder cultivation. Source: © Karin Heyden-Schneider, Langerwehe - Heistern
