October 29, 2022 - The Hagenbachklamm Gorge is part of the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve and a UNESCO model region for sustainability. It is the only biosphere reserve in Europe on the outskirts of a city with a population of one million. This region is home to around 750,000 people in 51 Lower Austrian municipalities.

The entire Hagenbachklamm Gorge is also a bird sanctuary, a Natura 2000 area "Vienna Woods Thermal Region," a fauna and flora habitat, a landscape conservation area, and is part of the Eichenhain Nature Park.
