The Anzio Lighthouse rises above the rocky spur of the Riviera di Ponente. It is said that its initial structure was erected by Pius IX in the eighteenth century but unfortunately, having been destroyed by the English corsairs soon after, it was declared fully operational only at the end of the nineteenth century: from that moment, its beam of light is a guide essential for sailors during the night, also illuminating the ruins of the ancient Imperial villa of Nero which is located right at his feet.
